By Chris Williams: On April 14th, HBO will have two fights shown in a pay-per-view split site telecast fight card with Juan Manuel Marquez (53-6-1, 39 KO’s) vs. Ukrainian Serhiy Fedchenko (30-1, 13 KO’s) in one of the main fights with former WBA World lightweight champion Brandon Rios (29-0-1, 22 KO’s) fighting Richard Abril (17-2-1, 8 KO’s) in the other big fight on the card. To me, both these fights look like mismatches and I can’t see either of them being worth it to pay to see this. I like value for my money.
There’s no value here. Marquez is going to destroy Fedchenko, who already got beat by Kaizer Mabusa. That tells you how much of a mismatch this fight is going to be. And the Rios-Abril fight is no better. Abril was soundly beaten by Breidis Prescott. He’s not in Rios’ lead and is going to get blown out. I don’t want to have to pay to see mismatches. The two separate cards aren’t loads or even close to being loaded.
The Rios-Abril fight will be taking place at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S., while the Marquez-Fedchenko fight card takes place at the New Mexico City Arena, Mexico City, Distrito Federal, Mexico. The Rios vs. Abril fight card will have unbeaten light welterweight contender Mike Alvarado fighting contender Mauricio Herrera in a 10 round bout. Alvarado will win this fight no problem. Mercito Gesta will also be fighting on the Rios-Abril card against an opponent still to be determined but that fight likely won’t make it onto PPV.
I know a certain percentage of boxing fans will purse the card just to see Rios and Marquez, ignoring the fact that these two separate fights are clear mismatches with stars facing lesser opponents. I don’t think this card is worthy of PPV. I’ve seen a lot of Manny Pacquiao cards that had mismatches from top to bottom, but this one ranks right up there with those in my view
Great analysis and match review too, i really liked your content. Keep it up...!!
